Acceptance of the New York Liberal Party Nomination
September 14, 1960
What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label “Liberal?” If by “Liberal” they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer’s dollar, then the record of this party and its members demonstrate that we are not that kind of “Liberal.” But if by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”
But first, I would like to say what I understand the word “Liberal” to mean and explain in the process why I consider myself to be a “Liberal,” and what it means in the presidential election of 1960.
In short, having set forth my view — I hope for all time — two nights ago in Houston, on the proper relationship between church and state, I want to take the opportunity to set forth my views on the proper relationship between the state and the citizen. This is my political credo:
I believe in human dignity as the source of national purpose, in human liberty as the source of national action, in the human heart as the source of national compassion, and in the human mind as the source of our invention and our ideas. It is, I believe, the faith in our fellow citizens as individuals and as people that lies at the heart of the liberal faith. For liberalism is not so much a party creed or set of fixed platform promises as it is an attitude of mind and heart, a faith in man’s ability through the experiences of his reason and judgment to increase for himself and his fellow men the amount of justice and freedom and brotherhood which all human life deserves.
I believe also in the United States of America, in the promise that it contains and has contained throughout our history of producing a society so abundant and creative and so free and responsible that it cannot only fulfill the aspirations of its citizens, but serve equally well as a beacon for all mankind. I do not believe in a superstate. I see no magic in tax dollars which are sent to Washington and then returned. I abhor the waste and incompetence of large-scale federal bureaucracies in this administration as well as in others. I do not favor state compulsion when voluntary individual effort can do the job and do it well. But I believe in a government which acts, which exercises its full powers and full responsibilities. Government is an art and a precious obligation; and when it has a job to do, I believe it should do it. And this requires not only great ends but that we propose concrete means of achieving them.
Our responsibility is not discharged by announcement of virtuous ends. Our responsibility is to achieve these objectives with social invention, with political skill, and executive vigor. I believe for these reasons that liberalism is our best and only hope in the world today. For the liberal society is a free society, and it is at the same time and for that reason a strong society. Its strength is drawn from the will of free people committed to great ends and peacefully striving to meet them. Only liberalism, in short, can repair our national power, restore our national purpose, and liberate our national energies. And the only basic issue in the 1960 campaign is whether our government will fall in a conservative rut and die there, or whether we will move ahead in the liberal spirit of daring, of breaking new ground, of doing in our generation what Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman and Adlai Stevenson did in their time of influence and responsibility.
Our liberalism has its roots in our diverse origins. Most of us are descended from that segment of the American population which was once called an immigrant minority. Today, along with our children and grandchildren, we do not feel minor. We feel proud of our origins and we are not second to any group in our sense of national purpose. For many years New York represented the new frontier to all those who came from the ends of the earth to find new opportunity and new freedom, generations of men and women who fled from the despotism of the czars, the horrors of the Nazis, the tyranny of hunger, who came here to the new frontier in the State of New York. These men and women, a living cross section of American history, indeed, a cross section of the entire world’s history of pain and hope, made of this city not only a new world of opportunity, but a new world of the spirit as well.
Tonight we salute Governor and Senator Herbert Lehman as a symbol of that spirit, and as a reminder that the fight for full constitutional rights for all Americans is a fight that must be carried on in 1961.
Many of these same immigrant families produced the pioneers and builders of the American labor movement. They are the men who sweated in our shops, who struggled to create a union, and who were driven by longing for education for their children and for the children’s development. They went to night schools; they built their own future, their union’s future, and their country’s future, brick by brick, block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood, and now in their children’s time, suburb by suburb.
Tonight we salute George Meany as a symbol of that struggle and as a reminder that the fight to eliminate poverty and human exploitation is a fight that goes on in our day. But in 1960 the cause of liberalism cannot content itself with carrying on the fight for human justice and economic liberalism here at home. For here and around the world the fear of war hangs over us every morning and every night. It lies, expressed or silent, in the minds of every American. We cannot banish it by repeating that we are economically first or that we are militarily first, for saying so doesn’t make it so. More will be needed than goodwill missions or talking back to Soviet politicians or increasing the tempo of the arms race. More will be needed than good intentions, for we know where that paving leads.
In Winston Churchill’s words, “We cannot escape our dangers by recoiling from them. We dare not pretend such dangers do not exist.”
And tonight we salute Adlai Stevenson as an eloquent spokesman for the effort to achieve an intelligent foreign policy. Our opponents would like the people to believe that in a time of danger it would be hazardous to change the administration that has brought us to this time of danger. I think it would be hazardous not to change. I think it would be hazardous to continue four more years of stagnation and indifference here at home and abroad, of starving the underpinnings of our national power, including not only our defense but our image abroad as a friend.
This is an important election — in many ways as important as any this century — and I think that the Democratic Party and the Liberal Party here in New York, and those who believe in progress all over the United States, should be associated with us in this great effort. The reason that Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman and Adlai Stevenson had influence abroad, and the United States in their time had it, was because they moved this country here at home, because they stood for something here in the United States, for expanding the benefits of our society to our own people, and the people around the world looked to us as a symbol of hope.
I think it is our task to re-create the same atmosphere in our own time. Our national elections have often proved to be the turning point in the course of our country. I am proposing that 1960 be another turning point in the history of the great Republic.
Some pundits are saying it’s 1928 all over again. I say it’s 1932 all over again. I say this is the great opportunity that we will have in our time to move our people and this country and the people of the free world beyond the new frontiers of the 1960s.
Thanks to PBS.org for reminding us of the Greatness our country should be aspiring, too. Open your minds and your hearts and let us change our world together, one issue at a time.

I don’t want to go to a business that has open carry laws. Just as much as they have gotten smoking bans for “the benefit” of ALL. So should they have the same courtesy to those of us who choose NOT to be around them. I don’t want them in my life, keep them in yours. I have as many rights being a non-carrying person, than those who want to carry. Both points have merits and we SHOULD be adult enough to discuss BOTH sides. I support others freedoms, but there SHOULD be a compromise, for others of humanity that choose to do without guns. (Can you imagine the torture some may go through being around strangers with guns, especially if they have PTSD, mental illness, or have lost someone in a violent crime, as well as other instances? What about those individuals no one has even DISCUSSED????) My heart goes out to them . . . . Something HAS to be changed in our conversations. How do You feel about the issue???

First off, a VT article, by Petr Lvov, entitled, “Energy Wars in Europe“, might be a read some of those into the “energy geopolitics” might like.Second off, I say, “COME ON… give me a break!!!!”“‘Energy’ has nothing to do with politics, or oil, or gas, or coal, or drilling, or shale-ing (fracking), or ANY of that.” Burning “crap” which makes more “crap” and a tiny amount of energy and puts money in the banks of the very few is absolute BS. And I cringe when I hear any discussions about the “world energy situation”, and they automatically-like-drones start talking about oil reserves, coal deposits, natural gas, and even biofuels. That paradigm is over.Energy just is. And the means of transmuting energy from one form to another, with minimal disruption and/or interruption to the planet, are here… NOW. Solar, wind, QEG, cold fusion, and all the free energy devices that are out there, or soon to be.This Archimedes Liam F1 Urban Wind Turbine (and a mini one soon to be) is just one item. But I enjoyed reading about it. And maybe you will too. Read the rest at the link below . . . .
Go to FCC.gov/comments and pst your pretest to government interference in the internet. Keep Comcast, ATT, Time Warner, from deciding how fast you get the internet. We still have time to stop this! Do you want monopolistic Cable companies to decide how fast and who should have the faster internet? We all love to comment on the mundane things people are doing; it is time to put those comments to good use.
My comment and formal complaint to the FCC June 1, 2014:
I feel that it is not up to the government or monopolistic media corporations to decide how fast our internet is provided or what content I am allowed to view. We are not supposed to have monopolies and yet, it is tolerated in the US where media special interests are concerned; especially when WE the PEOPLE don’t want any part of it. You are supposed to be our voice. So speak that which WE the People are speaking. “Its time for peace, harmony, and freedom of information…I do not want big media controlling my information. Corporations are not people they are ran BY people; humanity should come first.n Thanks for your time.

This march may well have been another one of those “lightning strikes“. It’s clear to me, that these GMO “giants” are hearing (and fearing) the will of the people.
It is clear that we have just witnessed the largest single worldwide protest against a company and their products. What is also clear is the major public disgust for anything bearing the words ‘GMO.’ Monsanto’s only refuge lies in massively funded mouthpieces in the forms of news clips and certain public figures, combined with a legal stranglehold on scientific research and medical inquiries. Yet in the age of information, their propaganda is laughable. Meanwhile the townspeople gather, having replaced their torches and pitchforks with signs and banners. We see this time the battle being fought from a place of higher consciousness. Our weapons of choice are the devastating methods of non-compliance, civil disobedience and free enterprise. It appears while the smoke is still clearing from what may be the final March Against Monsanto, momentum favors the people.
Tipping points are historically difficult to pinpoint or predict. They often manifest in the form of some event or consciousness action that ignites the minds of the public in a “now I can see” moment. During that exact second, and no sooner, a mass movement locks into a single idea that once cemented in stone, will never die. We are at such a point. The once obscured battle lines in the sand have now been illuminated with neon signs, doused with gasoline and set ablaze in our collective DNA. Into the future we march knowing only one thing clearly, genetically modified food will not be a part of it.
Years of brave activism and mobilized populations of unhappy mothers, disenfranchised farmers and educated consumers have brought us to this point. Surging forward comes the real work with instant rewards. Led by the recent examples of Mike Adam’s Forensic Food Lab and the continuous work of the Food Babe’s army going mainstream, it is clear that companies fear our voice and will instantly comply to the people’s wishes. How do we keep the heat on Monsanto? The company’s actions have shown us that their plan will move forward at all costs. So it is up to us to take the reigns and destroy their market share by voting with our dollars.
You money is your megaphone, your soapbox and your most important vote. This is a fact cemented in the pages of history’s empty political promises and arrogant corporate attitudes. We have always been taught throughout life that change would require a struggle. Yet, regaining your right to be healthy, eat healthy and live absent from the constant assault of weaponizied food is perhaps the most energizing ‘struggle’ you could engage in. Plus it’s a real community builder!
Most independent farmers these days struggle to make a living unless the are subsidized by Monsanto, Dow, et al. That is why supporting those farmers that choose to ‘go it alone’ and use organic methods and non-gm seed is now vital. Learn who those individuals/families are and support them. Now is the time. Evey dollar in their pocket is one taken directly from the ‘GMO machine.’
This is the best option and truly gives a win-win. By growing your own you will knowwhere your food is coming from, that it’s organic, non-gmo and free. All are luxuries that are slipping through the hands of everyone on this planet. For the non-gardeners, gather neighbors and utilize the monocropping technique. This is accomplished by having each participant grow one crop. You can see in a neighborhood of ten participants there would be greater variety and more yield than any one individual could do alone. In addition, you only have to specialize in learning to grow and harvest one type of plant.
We have won the hearts and minds of the people. While plowing through this tipping point, it’s important to keep circulating information via all social media platforms. When petitions become large enough, the right people listen. Since our wishes have continually fallen upon the deaf, unempathetic ears of Monsanto and the man who calls himself president, it’s time to start focusing on smaller targets. Individual companies and suppliers can be effected. Subway, Whole Foods, McDonald’s, Jell-O etc have all recently witnessed this first hand. Pressure put on them via social media, petitions and emails to remove GMO in large numbers will serve to disrupt profit margins, take over board meetings and steer internal policy. In a beautiful twist of fate, those companies then join our sounding board pointed at Monsanto et al. Do you think Monsanto could ignore scores of large corporations terminating business with it because they find themselves no longer profitable from a simple social media campaign or collective movement to boycott GMO’s? Game over!

Next week there is going to be a television special about Jacqueline Kennedy’s interviews with famed writer-historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. In addition a new book is about to hit the stores that will renew the time of Camelot, and make for reflections on what might have been. ABC News’ Diane Sawyer will host a prime-time, two-hour special based on the tapes Sept. 13, featuring exclusive audio of Jacqueline Kennedy’s interviews. The transcripts are being released in book form this month in “Jacqueline Kennedy: Historic Conversations on Life with John F. Kennedy.”There are all those strong competing personalities from the past just waiting to have their voice made whole again. Jacqueline Kennedy’s interviews might just do that very thing for those we either grew up knowing, or read about in history books. This is going to be very interesting.President John F. Kennedy was so “worried for the country” about the prospect that Vice President Lyndon Johnson might succeed him as president that he’d begun having private conversations about who should become the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer in 1968, Jacqueline Kennedy recalled in a series of oral-history interviews recorded in early 1964.She said her husband believed strongly that Johnson shouldn’t become president and, in the months before his death in November 1963, he’d begun talking to his brother, Robert Kennedy, about ways to maneuver around Johnson in 1968.“Bobby told me this later, and I know Jack said it to me sometimes. He said, ‘Oh, God, can you ever imagine what would happen to the country if Lyndon was president?’” she said.
Americans, in ever-increasing numbers, are beginning to speak about another big false flag that is coming which will serve as a pretense to get America’s gun. Before examining that possibility, let’s review the recent events.
In July of this past year, America witnessed the shooting of the Aurora Mall theaters at a Batman premiere. America was not moved in the direction of gun confiscation. The Newtown shootings pulled at the heartstrings of unaware Americans who mourned over the senseless loss of life of America’s most vulnerable victims. Yet, Americans responded with record gun purchases. This past December, in Utah, a random shooting took place in a mall. The media began to sensationalize the event in the name of gun control, until it was discovered that a person with a gun stopped more needless tragedy and the story disappeared from the corporate controlled media because it did not fit the anti-gun agenda. The same exact scenario took place in a restaurant/theater in San Antonio.
False flag shootings have been part of the American landscape going back to the Virginia Tech shootings and even back to the shootings at Columbine. Every year, there are more tragedies and more calls from the globalist controlled media to take the guns away from people. Yet, those that would seek to disarm us are met with opinions ranging from indifference to defiance with regard to the calls to get our guns.
The heretofore efforts to get Americans to give up their guns have fallen on deaf ears, no matter how emotionally gut wrenching the murder scene. I concluded some time ago that an enormous false flag effort was needed to turn the tide from anti-gun control to progun control in America.
Unable to move the public on the importance of gun control, if the Obama administration wishes to get the attention of the American people, they need a false flag event of such major proportions, which is so horrific, so dramatic and so compelling, that even the NRA will have to run for cover.
Last May, I postulated that a false flag attack might occur in Chicago. I reiterated this claim last fall. Please consider the following interrelated events as I see nothing to deter me from my original prediction:
Former Mossad contract agent, Rahm Emanuel mysteriously and inexplicably left a key White House staff position to descend to the less lofty role of being the Mayor of Chicago. Emanuel could very well have been put into play to remove the barriers which could lead to an easier false flag attack. As mayor, Emanuel would have control over law enforcement response to any emergency. His actions could exacerbate any attack. Certainly, in his role as the city’s chief executive, he would be in a position to thwart a meaningful investigation into a coming massive false flag attack as well. He has the power to turn off security cameras, control the placement of personnel and provide a context of plausible deniability for the Obama administration if such an attack were to occur. I only know that if I lived in Chicago and I knew that Emanuel was going to be out of the city for a few days, I would be very nervous.
The mysterious death of Chicago activist, Jeff Joe Black, who claimed that Emmanuel was put into place in Chicago to oversee a coming false flag event. Black, at the last-minute, cancelled an appearance on my show and subsequently went into hiding and was eventually murdered while in hiding. In my mind, Black’s murder strongly validates the aforementioned assertions. Black had told me that we were going to witness Chicago becoming the site of a massive false flag operation which would be the catalyst for martial law. Black asserted that Chicago would experience a massive wave of house to house gun confiscations. It was Black’s contention that this was a lead up to the implementation of full-scale martial law and possible war.
It is apparent that a similar warning has already been issued to key people from Chicago so that they can stay out of harm’s way. And along these lines, does anyone else find it interesting that President Obama is not planning to return to his former hometown of Chicago? In case you have not heard, Obama is in the middle of securing a residence in Hawaii while disposing of his Hyde Park properties in Chicago. Why? What does he know that the rest of us do not? Subsequently, Chicago does appear to be a likely target for a false flag attack.
The Washington Times is reporting that TSA agents are being trained to save themselves in the event of a mass shooting at an airport security checkpoint. The obvious question remains, should O’Hare Airport be avoided at all costs? Should all airports be avoided in the context of the new TSA agent training? I do not think that question can be definitively answered, but again, the trend curve for a massive and dramatic false flag attack designed as an attack on the Second Amendment, is clearly in our immediate future.
Not Everything Goes According To Plan
In my youth, I played quarterback. When an offensive team goes to the line of scrimmage, the coach has already signaled in the play to the quarterback. However, each quarterback will survey the defense and they can change the play, by calling an audible, just before the snap of the ball, if the quarterback feels that the play will not work. Often, a quarterback will have three or four play options, and each option has different possibilities based upon the reads of the players. Before the process of explaining an audible becomes too complicated for the non football person, allow me to say that the planners of false flag attacks have a primary plan. However, based upon the unfolding of intelligence and events just prior to the event, plans can get changed based upon the contingencies of the situation. The obvious football translation is that Chicago and O’Hare International Airport may be the primary false flag target, but circumstances could dictate the implementation of an attack elsewhere or in multiple airports at the same time. It is impossible to say for certain. However, it is safe to say that all the signs point to an imminent false flag attack.
Is the attack going to be at an airport security checkpoint? Is it going to take place in Chicago as I have been claiming for nearly a year? Nobody outside the planners of the event can say for sure. However, forewarned is forearmed and the key word is forearmed. Do not be tricked into giving up your guns by any false flag attack in Chicago or anywhere else. And if the feds ever get our guns, then the real adventure will begin because we will be totally defenseless.
